Virtual sports provider Golden Race has been awarded associate membership in the North American Association of State & Provincial Lotteries (NASPL), the regional body for Canada and the US that works to promote better relationships between lottery operators and gaming companies.

Golden Race, which produces virtual sports gaming platforms, will be one of over fifty lottery operating companies and game suppliers in the Canada and US in NASPL, which includes well-known gambling industry names such as Inspired, Scientific Games and IGT. NASPL also has the support of many gambling-related bodies including the National Council of Problem Gambling.

The NASPL was founded in 1971 and earning associate membership of the body will enable Golden race – which recently obtained a licence to supply platforms to the UK market – to have a voice in the  extremely profitable lottery market that exists in Canada and the US.

Essential services

According to figures released by NASPL, the total gross sales for US lotteries last year was $80,844,113,849, and taken as a whole, these lotteries generated a sum of $22,309,173,226 in tax revenue for state and local governments, which was used to help fund essential services in the areas of infrastructure, elderly care and education.

The same figures also showed that lottery sales in Canada were worth $10,115,744,805 during 2017, with both provincial and local governments benefitting to the tune of $3,282,803,896, although there are only 20,882 lottery retailers in Canada, compared to 96,223 in the US.

Speaking about their accession to NASPL, Golden Race’s Regional Director for North America, George Vonapartis, said that it demonstrated the company’s commitment to the lottery industry:

The acceptance of our application, following stringent eligibility requirements, is a recognition of our efforts to responsibly grow our company within regulatory gambling frameworks.”
